Class II/III River
8:30am - 4:30pm
Meet at Canoe Meadows on the Kananaskis River. Sessions are run on various sections of the Kananaskis depending on group ability and levels.
The aim of this program is to introduce and practice moving water safety and rescue concepts to participants. It is a largely practical course with a valuable and informative theory component that helps paddlers understand the importance and basic structure of rescue and safety on the river. The main focus is on safe river use and if/when a rescue is required doing it with minimal gear in an efficient manner.
After completing this course participants can expect to have a good understanding of boat and shore based rescues, a solid understanding of how their own personal equipment works (strengths and weaknesses). A large area of focus is also communication and group safety on the river during rescues. Learning points will be highlighted with regular discussions and de-briefings on scenarios/activities.
NOTE: If you are a beginner or more recreational paddler the River Safety for Recreational Kayakers is a great starting point for those looking at just getting into moving water. The course fee of $359 + gst INCLUDES the AWA registration fee of $60
